Hung my painting on the fence this morning to take a pic in the early light. :) |
Hello! I wanted to share a work-in-progress that I'm preparing for this weekend's show. It has a couple layers of acrylic paint, medium and rice paper on it and I intend to do several more before Opening Night this Saturday.
It's developing into a vision of the world's creation, so I want to make it even busier, more colorful and hopefully exploding with spores and growth and activity. I posted close-up details of it on flickr and would love to hear what you think.
To me, creation is colorful, busy, wild and energetic!

Lovely!!! the color palette makes me think of springtime - a nice warm thought on such a cold snowy day. Good luck with all of your artistic commitments this month my dear!!!
Thanks, Jess! So far I haven't missed a deadline, though I also haven't had much sleep. 2012 is off to an exciting start! :)
So beautiful and happy! I love the colours and especially the texture. Did you have a plan before beginning or do you start with a colour palette and see where the painting takes you?
I'm so happy that you like it! I tend to lay out pale washes of color that block out a very general composition with organic shapes. Then I work on top of that, sometimes going in a completely opposite direction and sometimes using it as a guideline. Either way, I like the added depth it provides.
For this painting, the underpainting was pretty spontaneous and then I dripped more colors on top to create more irregular/organic shapes. I already knew that I wanted to add rice paper (I have a thing with circles right now) and when I did that, it became clear that I was painting the origins of life, or an early moment in our creation story. :) That decision then sparked further ideas related to that concept. So... I guess the answer is that I didn't have too much of a plan and just went where it took me!
I love the colors-& it seems quite large, from the pic... I'm a couple of blog posts behind, so now I get to catch up -how fun!
Gorgeous colours Kimi - so uplifting from the very first moment!
It is quite large... I forget the dimensions at the moment but it may be somewhere close to 3' x 5'. It's presently hanging in our show so I can't run and check. :) Thanks for catching up with me, Kye! Always great to hear from you. <3
Thank you, Chantal! I admire your work so much, so it means a lot that you like my painting. :)
