a bee book

After completing my Art House sketchbook for 2012 and sending it off, I signed up for the Limited Edition project as there were a few openings left, a few months to work within, and a few friends that I knew had also joined in (to make it more fun).

The Limited Edition project differs from the annual Sketchbook Project in that the books do not go on tour, but at least one image from each book will be published in a set of books about the collaboration. I sent my book off to New York the other day to join the others in Brooklyn and I just posted the scans of my pages on flickr:

I wished to share the pages as I created them, but had so much going on I ended up just feeling lucky to have the time to finish the book at all. So, here they are ~ all in one go. Please take a look and let me know what you think! Thanks!

Wow! Such a beautiful book you made! It also has very interesting contents about bees. Children will love to see this.

I enjoyed reading your sketchbook.
I thought workers are male.
I learned that Bees that I saw outside are female.
I especially like 12-13 and watercolor on 31-32:)
Nice works Kimi!

Thank you, Hiromi! It must be the effect of being around so many children at the school each day ~ I am often communicating in a way that they can understand. :)

Nice to hear from you, Juriko! I am glad you enjoyed the book and learned some bee facts. I learned a lot myself along the way. I had fun with the ink & pencil drawing on 12-13. I hadn't realized how fuzzy bees are all over until I looked at them so closely.

Soon the 2012 Tour will be near me, in Oakland! I am going to check your book out again this year. Really looking forward to it!

I would have liked to have some pages be more finished and elaborate, but somehow I got the book done with several late nights in a row before deadline. :)

I have such a soft spot for bees! This book is so lovely and light. I'm so excited to get my hands on the LE book so I can see my friends in print!
